Goal: Craft a storytelling-led ecommerce experience for Islands Chocolate that authentically reflects their mission of ethical, sustainable chocolate production, from their farms in St Vincent to the finished product. Role: Lead Designer. Approach: Ran a full audit of the brand's strategy and goals to ensure every design decision aligned with their KPIs and values. Led the creation of a fresh, bespoke visual identity built from the ground up, with strong emphasis on transparency, traceability and immersive storytelling. Outcome: Delivered a Shopify store that performs commercially while capturing the heart of Islands Chocolate's purpose and story.

Bespoke Shopify Theme Design with On-site Animations

As the lead designer for the Islands Chocolate Shopify store, my focus was on crafting a truly memorable and differentiated user experience that reflected the uniqueness of the brand. To help the store stand out in a competitive market, I implemented seamless, immersive animations and a variety of interactive design elements that elevated the customer journey beyond the typical chocolate ecommerce experience. I also strategically structured the sitemap to ensure that every page told a distinct part of the Islands Chocolate story—from their Caribbean origins and hands-on production process to their commitment to sustainability. This layered storytelling approach added richness and depth to the user experience, creating a meaningful and engaging journey for every visitor.

Shopify Development and Performance Optimization

After completing the design phase for Islands Chocolate’s Shopify store, I collaborated closely with our development team to ensure that the build not only brought the creative vision to life but also met high standards for performance and speed. Given the visually rich design—including detailed animations and high-quality imagery—I guided the team in implementing development best practices to strike a balance between aesthetic sophistication and technical efficiency. We conducted extensive research into performance optimization techniques, ensuring fast loading times without compromising on interactivity or visual appeal. These enhancements were crucial not just for reducing bounce rates and improving user retention, but also for boosting SEO—helping drive more organic traffic to the store and ultimately supporting Islands Chocolate’s commercial goals.
